A 22-year-old woman who lived in Greenwich was found slain over the weekend in Kearny, N.J., officials said.
Andrea Catalina Reinoso-Bueno was found strangled Saturday afternoon in an apartment on 9 Windsor St., according to the Hudson County Prosecutors Office.
Diego Leonardo Campoverde-Cabrera, 26, who lived at the apartment where Reinoso was found, has been charged in the killing, officials said.
According to Hudson Country Prosecutor Edward De Fazio, an autopsy found that Reinoso-Bueno was killed by asphyxiation due to ligature strangulation.
Police believe she was strangled with an electric cord which was found at the crime scene, De Fazio said. There also were many contusions on her body, he said.
De Fazio said Reinoso-Bueno's listed address was 380 Lake Ave. in Greenwich, but it is unclear whether she resided there for work during the week or if she was living there permanently.
Published reports said Reinoso-Bueno worked in Greenwich as a nanny.
De Fazio said his office was able to identify the victim with the assistance of the Greenwich police, who said they were not certain of her employment status.
Officials believe Reinoso-Bueno's family live out of the country.
The killing is believed to be the result of domestic violence, according to the Hudson County Prosecutor's Office.
"There was a relationship of some period of time with the defendant," said De Fazio. "It appears to be a domestic violence situation."
